Aromatherapy meets Facial at Le Petit Spa

New! to Le Petit Spa, the Guinot Aromatic Facial

A new facial service which incorporates the power of pure plant concentrates and essential oils to make the skin naturally more beautiful and radiant looking.
Although essential oils and pure plant extracts are used, this facial will leave your skin feeling healthy and renewed; without a greasy or oily feeling left over.

The new Guinot Aromatic Facial at Le Petit Spa incorporates the benefits of an aromatherapy massage with the beautifying benefits of a facial service ending with a relaxing facial massage enhanced with pressure point techniques.

Each skin type, whether your skin is sensitive, oily, dry or needs a boost in radiance will benefit from your esthetician choosing a customized blend in plant concentrates and essential oils to deliver specific benefits to your skin.

What’s Pressure Point Massage?

Your body has 365 pressure points throughout your body. An example of a pressure point would be your temples. Pressure points are usually where a group of nerve endings meet; when used in martial arts they are used to cause pain to the opponent. When pressure points are massaged or stimulated they relax, relieve tension and are a deeply soothing form of massage therapy.

What are the benefits of using plant essential oils and concentrates on my skin?

Essential oils and plant derived concentrates have been used since the beginning of man kind to treat skin ailments and health ailments. We all know Aloe Vera is great for moisturizing dry skin or calming a burn, but I bet you didn’t know that when taken internally it doubles as a laxative? Many plant essential oils and concentrates double as both topical and oral treatments for common ailments.

Essential Oil combinations available:

Your esthetician at Le Petit Spa will do a thorough skin analysis and talk with you about your skin concerns and which skin problems, if any, need to be targeted during the treatment. She will choose from the following options:

Comfort: Rosemary, Sage, Marjoram - for dry skin or a skin that has poor circulation.

Balance: Cypress, Lemon and Sweet Orange - for oily or dull skin.

Serenity: Chamomile, Rosewood and Lavender - for sensitive or reddened skin.

Energy: Lemon, Rosemary and Lavender - for dull or devitalized skin needing a boost in radiance.

Vitality - Rosewood, Rosemary and Eucalyptus - for mature skin that needs a boost in circulation and anti-aging protection.

How does the Aromatic Facial work?

The Guinot Aromatic Facial is based on a classic European facial protocol.

A proper cleansing, toning, and exfoliation are performed moving into a relaxing massage with pressure point techniques. A mask is mixed right before being applied to your skin containing pure essential oils that have been picked out for your specific skin and experience.

The service is about an hour. This facial should be performed once per month to maintain your skin or as an intensive treatment 1 to 2 times per week for three consecutive weeks.

Le Petit Spa offers complimentary skin type analysis to determine your skin type and to help you decide which products are best for your skin type. Contact Le Petit Spa today…

Microdermabrasion - what, who, and why?

Microdermabrasion at Le Petit Spa

May 1st has come and gone already and Le Petit Spa has launched their brand new spa service and treatment menu!

This month, we feature our
Microdermabrasion Facial as our service promotion for the month of May.

This blog talks about Microdermabrasion, what it is, how it works, who it is for and why!

What is a Microdermabrasion Treatment?

Microdermabrasion is a non-invasive method of exfoliating the skin. Microdermabrasion has been around since the 1980’s but the theory about sloughing off the top layer of skin to rejuvenate your skin’s look has been around since about 1500 B.C.

Microdermabrasion is a non-invasive, non-chemical means of gently removing the top layer of skin (the dead, keratinized skin cells) to reveal fresh, younger skin cells underneath. This is done by a gentle flow of corundum crystals (a semi-precious grade of sapphire that is ground up into a fine sand) that is gently blown onto the skin, removing dead skin and debris as it is then suctioned back into the Microdermabrasion machine with a gentle vacuum suction.

Who is Microdermabrasion for?

Microdermabrasion is perfect for most skin types; however, there are some clients who cannot have Microdermabrasion treatments:

  • Clients experiencing pustule acne
  • Clients with Rosacea
  • Clients that have HIV or other immune system deficiencies
  • Sunburned skin
  • Extremely thin-skinned clients
  • Clients that have extremely sensitive skin.

Clients that can have Microdermabrasion treatments are:

  • Mature skin types
  • Dry skin types
  • Oily skin types
  • Combination skin
  • Thickened or keratinized skin types
  • All skin types needing general exfoliation

Other skin ailments that have been successfully treated by Microdermabrasion treatments:

Pigmentation - Age spots and brown pigmentation on the skin can be significantly reduced with an average of six sessions; as it takes about 28 days to see results of spa services on your skin we recommend one treatment for six consecutive weeks.

Uneven skin texture - Exfoliating the skin on a regular basis allows for the skin to renew and regenerate itself more evenly. An “orange peel” looking skin texture can be smoothed and enlarged pores can be diminished in appearance after about six treatments.

Oily Skin - If you suffer from excessive oily skin, a Microdermabrasion treatment can balance oil production and oil secretions clearing your pores and removing impurities that can cause blemish flare - ups.

Clients that also have scars left from acne may benefit from a Microdermabrasion treatment as this will stimulate collagen production, plump up the scars and help them heal and become even with the surface area of the skin.

General exfoliation needs - perhaps your regular exfoliate gives you great results but you’re ready for something new.

Why does Microdermabrasion work?

Microdermabrasion was developed to treat the signs of aging, such as fine lines and wrinkles, by exfoliating and stimulating the skin. When the skin “thinks” that it is being “hurt” it naturally boosts up collagen and elastin production to protect and regenerate itself. When collagen and elastin are produced, the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles decreases as they are being “plumped” up with the new collagen and elastin tissues.

This is one of the main reasons why clients have such great results from a Microdermabrasion treatment - it is highly regenerating, there is no recovery time or “down time” needed as in other cosmetic procedures and the skin is not hurt or damaged in anyway.

Le Petit Spa is offering our New Microdermabrasion Facial Treatment on for a promotional price this month…

The Best Solution Before Collagen Injections arrives at Le Petit Spa

Did you know? Our skin’s natural levels of collagen (the tissue responsible for keeping your skin young looking and wrinkle free) depletes by 1% every year after the age of 20?

There are many ways you can protect your skin’s natural collagen levels from depleting too fast like wearing sunscreen, drinking your 8 glasses of water a day and living a healthy lifestyle.

But, the newest addition to Le Petit Spa’s service menu will replenish lost collagen while preventing and slowing down further collagen loss.

Le Petit Spa has added a Collagen Masque to their facial menu and can be added to any facial service at Le Petit Spa. This collagen masque is the perfect way to reduce the look of fine lines and wrinkles for someone that may not want to go to the next step of Collagen injections (and its way cheaper!)

The perfect addition to any Le Petit Spa facial including:

Signature Facial - already includes a masque custom picked out for your skin, add the collagen masque to add some preventative anti-aging actions.

Microdermabrasion Facial - this facial is also new to Le Petit Spa and when combined with the Collagen Masque is your answer to leaving the spa with a mini face lift.

The Collagen masque is available at Le Petit Spa in early May...contact Le Petit Spa.

Incorrect Facial Treatments and the harmful effects on your skin

Incorrect Facial Treatments and the harmful effects on your skin

Visiting a spa for the first time can be an emotional experience, whether it’s a good emotion or bad. Not knowing the skincare line, the Esthetician, or what to expect can be a little uncomfortable at first, but a good spa will realize this and make every effort to put your worries at ease.

Having an intimate spa service, such as a facial or massage, where the spa therapist is up close and personal can be one of these uncomfortable times. Not knowing if he or she is professionally trained or experienced is one of the biggest concerns when visiting a spa for the first time.

This blog talks about what you should look for when it comes to receiving a professional spa facial, what type of questions you’ll be asked and what you should expect from a highly trained esthetician.

What should I expect when I have a facial treatment?

1. Client Consultation Form – These forms are kept on file at spas and are kept confidential between you and your esthetician. These forms ask for any allergies you have, any concerns or areas that you would specifically liked to be worked on, or any medical conditions the esthetician should be aware of. This will prevent any wrong ingredients that you can not come into contact with should you have any allergies etc…

2. Skin Analysis – When you step into your treatment room, the first step your esthetician will do is a skin analysis. This will be done under a special magnifying lamp that allows your esthetician to view your skin up close. Skin conditions such as acne, psoriasis and any other skin conditions that need special attention can be considered. Specialized products customized for your particular skin conditions and/or type can then be used to be best of your benefit. This is the time for you to point out any concerns that you have with your skin, what you’re using on your skin and what result you would like to achieve. Your Esthetician should ask you these questions before you bring them up with her.

3. Walk-through of procedure – Your esthetician should take the time to explain every step of your facial service to you before you begin. She should ask you if you’ve had a facial service before, and ask if you have any questions about any of the steps she has explained to you. She should also mention which type of products she will be using on you and a little blurb about the skin care line.

4. Constant Communication – Your esthetician should stay in constant communication with you during the time of your facial. Asking how you are feeling lets the door open for you to communicate any concerns about the products she is using on your skin and how your skin is reacting to them.

5. Education – At the end of the facial service, your esthetician should educate you on which type of skincare products are right for you and steps that she has thought out for you to follow on a regular basis at home. If you have questions, concerns or comments, now is the time to talk about them with him/her.

The Spa you visit should only hire professionally trained estheticians from an accredited school of cosmetology/esthetics or spa therapy. If you have a facial treatment with a spa therapist who is not adequately trained, certain situations may arise:

What can happen to my skin should I have a treatment that is not right for my skin?

Pre Mature Aging of the skin - Incorrect product use or products that are not right for your skin type can lead to premature aging of the skin whether it dries skin out or creates an unbalanced ph level that can cause breakouts and other skin irritations.

Too strong of an exfoliation for your skin can cause irreversible damage that can result in thinning of the skin, burning of the skin, or soreness or redness that can remain for days after the facial treatment. Too much exfoliation can also result in your oil secretions being over stimulated to protect itself which can result in breakouts or an imbalance that can cause irritation and problems for your appearance.

Estheticians that are not trained properly by the facility in which they work. Make sure that the spa you decide to have treatments at has a hiring process in which they only hire trained professionals and offer in-house training and continuing education to their employees.

• Estheticians that do not do a proper skin type analysis, resulting in the wrong type of facial being performed on your skin

Damage to your skin’s healthy pH level and balance

Wrong information and education passed on to the client about their skin and proper skin care routine.

Irritation, rashes, allergic reactions may result if incorrect ingredients and skin products used

• Consultation form not filled out can result in allergic reactions etc. that may have been pointed out on consultation form.

All of Le Petit Spa’s Body Workers and Estheticians are fully certified and trained through various schools of body work and spa therapy. Below is a list of just some of the schools our spa therapists have graduated from:

• Blanche Macdonald, Vancouver
• Dominelli International School of Cosmetology
• Vancouver School of Body Work and Massage

Le Petit Spa Price Comparison Drug Store Products vs Spa Products

It often baffles me when a client comes into the spa for a facial and spends a fair chunk of change on the service, but does not want to invest in the return: Home Care Products!

Spa products are exclusive to spas so that they can maintain their high quality ingredients and are not mass produced. They contain, on average, about 50 to 70 % more active ingredients than drug store brands do and guess what? They are not always more expensive!

In fact, professional products are usually cheaper than mass produced product lines – all of the money from sales goes back into the product line and is used for further scientific studies, rather than flashy media campaigns. Drug store brands will usually tack on a little more dollar signs on to their products to help out with the cost of marketing campaigns.

See Le Petit Spa's private price comparison in a past issue of our monthly newsletter "spa talk" click here to view comparison.
