Sugar vs. Salt Exfoliation

Sugar vs. Salt Exfoliation

Day Spas around the world are guaranteed to have either a
Salt Body Scrub or Sugar Body Scrub on their service menu. But is there a difference?

Sugar Body Scrubs

Sugar is a useful exfoliant medium. Its coarse texture gently removes build up of unwanted dull skin cells and reveals fresh, glowing skin underneath. As a product, its sweet smell is fun to use and calms even the biggest sweet tooth’s sugar cravings. However, when used as a
body scrub, sugar can be messy and sticky, as well, sugar lacks in vitamins and minerals that are useful to the human body.

Salt Body Scrubs

Salt is also an extremely useful exfoliant medium. Salt is extremely coarse, and the salt grains used in spa services are usually larger than sugar grains. Just as sugar does, salt not only removes dead skin cells, but dissolves them as well. Salt contains trace elements, minerals and vitamins that are essential to human life and health. When used in a spa service, salt remineralizes and detoxifies your skin and promotes healthy cell turnover.

Baby Skin Care

DID YOU KNOW?

Children’s skin has the same Ph level as water (7), which is why their skin is more prone to fungal infections. As fungus does not like acidic conditions, it does not grow as easily on adults who usually have Ph levels between 5 and 6.

The Ph level of your baby’s skin can be easily irritated during the first few years of life by using harsh detergents and skin care that is not formulated for the sensitive skin of a baby.

When choosing skin care for your baby, here are 6 great tips:

• Choose products that are Hypo-allergenic

(formulated not to cause reactions, such as Mustela)
• Dermatologist recommended
• Ph balanced products for baby’s skin ( Ph level of 7)
• High quality ingredients
• Products that treat and protect your baby’s skin
• Manufactured under strict guidelines

If you would like to obtain additional information on baby skin care or spa services for babies, please visit

Healthy Holidays!

The season of colds and flu is upon us, and we are all about a healthy holiday season at Le Petit Spa. People are getting their nails done for the holidays and we have been asked why we do not offer gel or acrylic nails. In response here are some of the health reasons we do not provide this service:

- we promote healthy, natural beauty
- the nail bed can be damaged when the nail is removed
- the nails need to be filled approximately every 2-3 weeks
- repeated exposure to acrylic and other chemicals can be harmful to the nails’ health
- methyl methacrylate is found in many acrylic nail products
i. can cause fungal infections
ii. prolonged exposure can lead to other health problems (e.g., affects lung health)

We offer a variety of manicure services including Express, Classic, French and our popular Signature Manicure. Make one of these a spa gift for a loved one or for yourself for a healthy holiday season!

How to Save your Nails

Diet and lifestyle can affect the health of every part of your body, right down to your finger tips. Buliding healthier fingernails can easily be accomplished by using a high quality nail strengthener, such as OPI's Nail Envy.

How does nail strengthener work?

OPI Nail Envy Nail Strengthener helps build harder, longer & stronger natural nails. With it's high-gloss formula, it contains strengthening protein, calcium and an antioxidant to help broken nails.

You can use it as a base coat when applying coloured polish or separately if you prefer a more natural look.

OPI Nail Strengthener is available at Le Petit Spa in our retail area.

For Best Results...

If you want to get more out of your visits to the esthetician, here are my top five tips:

  1. Think of your esthetician as a long-term partner. The truth is, neither of you can achieve your skin care goals alone. Only by working together with your esthetician can you achieve and maintain balanced, healthy, younger-looking skin.
  2. Be prepared for an ongoing commitment. You just won’t get the results you want by popping into the spa twice a year for an express facial. Is it a commitment in time and money? You bet, but it’s like that commercial – you have to decide whether you, and your skin care goals, are worth it. If you’re short on time or cash, talk to your esthetician. She may be able to recommend a streamlined treatment regimen or a more affordable product line.
  3. Be truthful with your esthetician. If she asks how much sleep you get each night, how much water you drink each day, or how much time you spend on skin care, answer honestly. It’s the only way she can accurately assess the condition of your skin and prescribe an effective skin care plan that will yield the results you’re after.
  4. Don’t wait until you have a skin problem to see your esthetician. The earlier you begin treatment, the more options are available to you and the better the end results will be. For example, anti-aging treatments should begin in your 20s, before signs of aging are apparent. If wait until your early 40s to see an esthetician, damage has already been done and your options are much more limited.
  5. Do what your esthetician tells you. Your esthetician is a trained professional, and she can recommend an effective skin care plan, but you won’t see results if you don’t follow through. It’s that simple.
