The Top 5 Essential Products You Need For Beauty On-The-Go

The long-awaited summer has arrived and you have booked your flight ticket and can't wait to enjoy your much-deserved vacation. As you scramble through your paperwork and finish up the last bits of work on the last day, you realize you have not packed anything!

But don't fret - it is a common first world problem and it happens to everyone. We may not be able to help you choose what outfit matches with your shoes, but we are here to help take care of your skincare needs with these top 5 essential products for beauty-on-the-go.

1) Cleanser

The first step to healthy skin care is cleansing. As we run our busy lives every day, sweat, oil, pollution and other impurities clog our pores. This gives us the appearance of rough, dull looking skin.

If you are flying out to a foreign country, you don't know what the air contains and this can cause risks to your skin such as breakouts, dryness, and sensitivity.

Cleansing your skin will help remove these impurities from the surface of your skin and prevent breakouts. It is handy to stock up on 100 ml plastic bottles that you can use to pour your cleanser and toner.

Pack all of these essentials in your carry-on luggage and replenish your skin with a quick cleanse before you take off to help hydrate your skin. The airplane cabin air can be very drying so make sure to stay hydrated with plenty of water as well!

2) Toner

After you have cleansed your skin, apply toner to help prep the skin for the next treatment. Toner also helps to balance the pH in the skin and remove any excess residue such as makeup and dirt.

Dab a few drops of toner onto a cotton round and do a quick swipe over the full face, focusing on an area that collects the most dirt and oil such as the forehead, around the nose, lips, and the neck.

Look for a toner that is not formulated with alcohol. Any product formulated with alcohol can easily dry out the skin and cause irritation and breakouts.

Toner will help to soothe the skin from any sensitivity and calm the skin if you have acne prone skin. Once you have toned your skin, it will become smooth and easier to work with for the next steps.

3) Exfoliant

We cannot stress enough how important it is to exfoliate your skin. Exfoliation comes with many benefits such as unclogging the pores, refining the skin's texture, brightening the complexion, and much more!

Exfoliation for on-the-go comes in many forms: rice powder, scrubs or exfoliating gels, gommages and exfoliating peel pads. Given you have enough space in your skincare bag, all of these forms work perfectly fine for anywhere you go.

The most popular form that skincare brands have released is rice powder. Rice powder exfoliants are gentle and suitable for everyday use, but it depends on the nature of the product itself.

Some rice powder exfoliates are a bit on the stronger side and should be used only once a week. Too much exfoliation is very drying for the skin and can cause redness and dry, sensitive patches around the face.

To activate the rice powder, you will need a few drops of water or spray a few pumps of your toner mixed in with the rice powder. Using a toner mixed in with your rice powder gives a better result than water due to the properties and ingredients of the toner.

If you choose to bring exfoliating peel pads, make sure to store them in an airtight container or Ziploc bag because you don't want them to dry out! Whether you choose to bring your rice powder, scrub or exfoliating gel and exfoliating peel pads, focus on areas that you are prone to dryness and congestion.

4) Moisturizer

After you have exfoliated your skin, it will be slightly dry because you have stripped all the oils off your skin. This is the best time to apply a hydrating moisturizer and replenish the skin with water content.

Because your pores have been opened up, the ingredients in the moisturizer can easily absorb into your skin and give you a smooth and glowing texture.

Choose a moisturizer that combats dehydration because you want to keep your skin hydrated throughout the whole trip as the airplane cabin air, hotel room air and the change in climate are quite drying.

If you happen to have extra space in your skincare bag, pop in a few face masks! Face masks are great for dehydration and they double up as a moisturizer. When you are on the plane before going to sleep, put on a face mask for 20 minutes after exfoliation.

Don't worry, no one is going to judge you! After you have finished masking, rub the excess serum from the mask onto your face and neck because you don't want it to go to waste. Apply your regular moisturizer and you will be fully replenished for the morning.

5) Sunscreen

When it comes to sun protection, it is very important to apply sunscreen every day if you going outdoors. If you are going for a swim, apply sunscreen before and after.Woman on vacation wearing sunscreen

If you are going hiking or doing any adventurous activity, apply sunscreen every 2 hours. Make sure your sunscreen is at least SPF 50 to effectively block UV rays and protect your skin from sunburns.

Incorporate sunscreen into your daily routine and create a habit of using sunscreen for whenever you do outdoors. Sunscreen protects your skin from any sun rays and the sun's UV rays, even on cloudy days where they can easily seep through the clouds and onto your skin.

Regular use of sunscreen also helps to prevent dark spots and age spots in the future.

Eye Cream

Lack of sleep is a common issue for long distance traveling. Whether it is adjusting to the plane seat or the hotel bed, you may feel some dryness around the eyes.

Carry a bit of eye cream in a small jar and apply it under the eyes to prevent dryness, get rid of dark circles, and freshen the eyes. The last thing you want is to land in your destination with panda eyes!

Use your eye cream every morning and night to prevent signs of aging, rehydrate the eyes, and maintain your youthful looking face.
